A system restarting does not necessarily mean the PSU is bad or malfunctioning. A system may restart for any of the following reasons:
- Applications Crashing
- Drivers Crashing
- Component Overheating(CPU, GPU, SSD, etc.)
- Insufficient Size/Wattage PSU
- OCP(Overcurrent Protection)
If you find your system is restarting without your input, ask yourself the following questions:
- Does the restart happen in a particular game or application?
- Does the restart show a Bluescreen/Error code?
- Did you recently upgrade the system?
- Are the temperatures of the system within specifications?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, consider looking into troubleshooting for those errors first.
- You may try another game/application to see if the restart still happens!
- Write down the code from the Bluescreen/error and see if there are standard solutions/troubleshooting steps online.
- Whocrashed is a beneficial (and free) application that can help.
- If you recently upgraded the system, try putting the old parts back in to see if this issue still occurs. If not, your PSU may not have enough wattage for the new components.
- If the system temperatures are high, consider cleaning the system first. Dust and debris can block the air exchange of radiators and fans, resulting in high temperatures that can lead to system restarts.
