Goal: Stop (or allow) USB ports from providing power after shutdown.


1. Check BIOS/UEFI

• Restart → press Del / F2 / Esc at boot.

• Find settings like:

  • USB Charging in Off Mode

  • ErP Ready / ErP Support

  • USB Power Delivery in Soft Off State

• Disable to cut power when off.

• Save & exit.
  
  
  2. Windows Device Manager

• Windows + X → Device Manager.

• Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

• Right-click USB Root Hub → Properties.

• Power Management tab → check Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
  
  
  3. Disable Fast Startup

• Windows + R → control powercfg.cpl.

• Choose what the power buttons do.

• Change settings that are currently unavailable.

• Uncheck Turn on fast startup → Save.
  
  4. Physical Switch

• Use a USB on/off adapter or smart power strip for a guaranteed cutoff.
  
  
  Tip: If you still want charging on some ports, check your motherboard manual — many let you pick specific ports to keep active.
